Yeah, I'd much rather confess my sins of fornication to 3 sisters in a back room late one night. Who knows what might happen

Yet another JW child abuse cover-up in the UK news...
by cedars inbradford pedophile massimo capazzo was disfellowshipped for grooming and abusing two young boys, but the elders never told the police.. he was only prosecuted after turning himself in.. not surprisingly, both victims now need professional help and wrestle with "feelings of worthlessness and guilt.".

Good exposure. However, I wish this would hit the news harder. There are so many stories we know of but I get the feeling the media don't pick up on JW dirt as much as they do the with mainstream religions.
When you think of the stand JW's make and the claims they make, child abuse scandals are actually bigger stories than the same in any other religion.

Why do you blame Jehovah's Witnesses for false predictions ?
by Phizzy inwhen you read the pseudapigraphical 2nd peter chapter 3 and other nt writings about the parousia and how close it is, or why it hasn't happened yet, why is it a surprise that the wt/jw's get it wrong all the time ?.
if those early chrisitian writers could make totally false claims, and yet their words are supposed to be "inspired of god", why is it so wrong that the wt/jw's do the same ?.
cut 'em some slack fellers, the wt may be false prophets, over and over, but they are in good company..

It's all down to the meaning of "soon".
It's ok getting wrong but when they say "agree with us or die" that's when my bum squeeks.

Neither elders nor the bethel "child abuse" helpdesk have any idea on how to handle such matters. Elders do not receive any kind of professional training and at most, the helpdesk is experienced in just "listening" to reports of abuse.
This case is really quite simple. Enough people knew but did nothing to protect the local children. As a result, another child was abused. It's not hard to assume that this problem exists on a worldwide scale.
The argument is about "who in the know" should take some form of responsibility.
The WTBTS party line is that did not have a duty.
Funny that - in every other aspect of my life they believe they do have a duty to step in and show "care" where they deem appropriate.
- What I should wear.
- Who I should associate with.
- What I should eat.
- What music I listen to.
- Where I put my willy.
- Who I marry.
- What I think.
- What I say and how I say it.
And so on...
Contravene any of their "rules" in relation to the above and their level of care will be fully exercised especially in regard to their "duty" to deal with you.
Now they've been bitten on the bum they're running a mile.
I'd also like to point out that in my view it's fraud to post a sign above a collection box soliciting money to support the preaching work when in reality a large proportion of the money collected has been paid out in legal fees and compensation as a result of their ineffective Child Protection Policy.

Candace Conti's Sur-Reply is Very Effective
by DNCall inat oral argument on august 13th, the court requested additional briefing from candace regarding the punitive damages being contested by watchtower.
from the case law cited in the brief it is demonstrated that the award of punitive damages is on solid legal ground.
although the court had until august 25 to render its decision as to whether the present judgment will be altered and watchtower granted a new trial, the court docket indicates that the court has entered an order already.

My travel to work consists of getting out of bed and walking 3 paces to my mini home office. I rarely meet anyone along the way apart from my doggy!
But, I'm frequently in Central London, UK so if anyone want's a Starbucks let me know :-)

That could be true. I'm certainly no lawyer but I've been stunned at some of the arguements put across by the Watchtower. And the longer this is going on the more desperate they seem to be clutching at silly ideas.

The brief makes interesting reading and as mentioned above, it's all about money. However, the response to the Watchtower brief by Simons is a far more interesting read. Every case law point made by the Watchtower is proven to be misunderstood by Watchtower lawyers. It seems that they read the first few lines of a previous case and throw it in hoping no one will notice that it actually supports the Conti case. Laughable!!

The order has just gone live on the court webiste for download. You are correct, it relates to costs being awarded and added to the judgement.
